“Receiving this award as a recent CJS grad is an honor. It recognizes my commitment to reporting on local communities and underrepresented issues throughout my journalism career,” said Foust.
"I am truly so excited for what's ahead in my fellowship at The Maine Monitor.”
Foust worked in the corrections system and as a paralegal for three years. After interning in the Massachusetts prison system, she decided to pursue a career in accountability journalism.
At Columbia Journalism School, she focused on New York City’s criminal justice and court systems. Her Master’s project, advised by Josiah Bates, '16 M.S., investigated community relationships to the NYC borough-based jail system and the projected 2027 closure of Rikers Island.
Foust earned her bachelor’s degree at Boston College in Philosophy and Psychoanalytic Studies.
