The "fascism debate" about Donald Trump animated political scientists and commentators during the first Trump term, and is now back again. In this discussion, we hope to understand the stakes of the debate, to situate Trump in the history of right-wing American politics, and to understand what exactly is new, and what exactly is old, about the moment we now face.
Jamelle Bouie is a New York Times opinion columnist.
Moira Weigel, currently a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, is a professor at Northeastern, cofounder of Logic Magazine, author of Labor of Love, and a contributor to the Guardian and the New Republic.
Corey Robin is Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Grad Center, author of The Reactionary Mind and The Enigma of Clarence Thomas, and a frequent contributor to the New Yorker and the New York Review of Books.
