Melanie Huff has been promoted to Dean of Student Affairs, with oversight of Student Life, Career Services, the Columbia News Service and International Programs. Melanie will report directly to Dean Jelani Cobb. Over her 38 years at the Journalism School, Melanie has held a series of increasingly senior roles in Student Affairs, serving as an unwavering advocate for our students and a trusted leader across the School.
Tarin Almanzar has been promoted to Senior Associate Dean, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment Management, recognizing her leadership and expanded responsibilities overseeing the Loan Repayment Assistance Program and enrollment analytics. Tarin will also report directly to Dean Cobb. Tarin has been part of the Columbia community for more than 26 years and a valued member of the Journalism School’s admissions team since 2008.
Abi Wright was named Executive Director, Professional Prizes and Programs. She joined the school in 2008 to head the Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Awards, and has led the School’s portfolio of professional prizes since 2013. Now, she will provide additional oversight to select professional programs.
In alignment with these structural shifts, Kate Kennedy, Director of Professional and Academic Programs, joined the Academic Affairs team to continue supporting each of the school’s six professional learning opportunities.
The changes represent a continued, successful commitment to fostering and uplifting excellence in students, faculty and staff across Columbia Journalism School.
