We are deeply saddened by the passing of our 2016 John Chancellor Award winner Gwen Ifill. Ifill was one of the country's most revered and trusted political reporters, a broadcast news anchor and author.
We had hoped to honor her lifetime achievement in journalism at a ceremony this week and had postponed due to her illness.
When we announced her selection in August as the 2016 Chancellor honoree, Columbia Journalism School Dean and Chancellor Board Member Steve Coll said: "Gwen Ifill's career embodies the best of our profession and the spirit of the John Chancellor Award: her unflinching pursuit of the truth, healthy skepticism of those in power and her commitment to fairness."
