Dean Jelani Cobb reflected on more than a decade of reporting for The New Yorker and shared insights from his new book, "Three or More Is a Riot: Notes on How We Got Here 2012–2025," in a recent interview with Columbia News.
Cobb discussed how the collection explores democracy and its challenges, tracing how major events of the past twelve years shaped the current moment. “The real thread that unites the book is democracy and its challenges,” he said. “For me, it was useful to go back to the work itself and to concentrate on pieces that gave us a hint of how we got to now.”
He also spoke about balancing his work as dean with his writing for The New Yorker, teaching courses such as American History for Reporting and Opinion Writing and preparing future journalists.
