Fostering Global Conversations
Dean Jelani Cobb joined Columbia Global Centers (CGC) Amman for “Faultlines and Deadlines: Rebuilding Trust in Journalism in the Age of Misinformation” and gave a keynote on how the industry can combat hate speech and misleading content.
Photojournalism work by Professor Nina Berman, ‘85 M.S., will be featured in the American Photography Exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, opening during a February 9 event hosted by the museum and the John Adams Institute.
Sewell Chan, Executive Editor of Columbia Journalism Review, spoke at Sciences Po’s annual “Nouvelles Pratiques Du Journalisme” conférence in Paris.
Jacob Kushner, '13 M.A. Politics, David Laventhol Visiting Assistant Professor of Journalism, traveled to Canaan, Haiti to report on how the town is struggling to survive after an earthquake for Long Lead.

Stories Without Borders
Professor Helen Benedict’s new novel, "The Good Deed," was featured at the Cairo International Book Fair this January and February. Plus, her play, "The Lonely Soldier Monologues," took the stage in Copenhagen on January 13.
Professor Howard French’s book, “Born in Blackness,” was recently released in French and Turkish, and featured on visits to Benin and Ghana. His upcoming work, “The Second Emancipation,” was named one of Foreign Policy’s most anticipated books of 2025.

Keith Gessen, George T. Delacorte Assistant Professor of Magazine Journalism, traveled to Kyiv to document the feelings of Ukrainians living in the capital city during the nation’s second year of war in an article for The New Yorker.
Azmat Khan, Patti Cadby Birch Assistant Professor of Journalism and Director Li Center for Global Journalism, explored the complexities surrounding accountability for wartime errors in her latest work for the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, “Mistakes In War.”
Advancing Journalism Education
The Brown Center for Media Innovation, led by Mark Hansen, David and Helen Gurley Brown Professor of Journalism and Innovation, awarded its inaugural Marco Castro Cosio Fellowship to Lorena (Lolo) Ostial.
Elena Cabral, '99 M.S., Adjunct Professor and Assistant Dean of Student and International Programs, hosted a CJS degree program and fellowship event in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Sheila Coronel, Toni Stabile Professor of Professional Practice in Investigative Journalism, and Robe Imbriano, Ira A. Lipman Associate Professor of Journalism, taught at Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE).
