Alumni on the Move: From Paris to the Local Newsroom

Kaitlin Balasaygun, '24 M.S., shared the journey of Christie Raleigh Crossley, world champion Paralympic swimmer, in the New York Times – her first byline since graduating from CJS.

Gabriela Bhaskar, '17 M.S., was on assignment photographing the Paris Olympics for the New York Times.

Lingzi Chen, '21 M.S., is starting a new role as a general assignment reporter at Lake County News, where she plans to report daily news and longer, more complex stories as well as connect with underrepresented communities. 

Jose Maria del Pino, '23 M.A. Politics, is covering the 2024 U.S. Election for the Colombian cable television news channel NTN24.

Tamia Fowlkes, '23 M.S., shared a glimpse of covering the upcoming presidential election for the  Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jane Godiner, '24 M.S., had her Columbia Journalism School master’s project published in the Daily Beast.

David Gonzalez, '83 M.S., is departing the New York Times after 33 years.  

Tasmiha Khan, recipient of the 2023 Lipman Center’s Initiative in Reporting on Race and Criminal Justice grant, examines the challenges facing incarcerated Muslim women practicing their faith in her latest piece for The Emancipator.

Tessa Kramer, '19 M.A. Politics, was recently awarded the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s (VTLA) Excellence in Journalism Award. She earned the honor for her audio reporting on season one Admissible: Shreds of Evidence.

Jacob Kushner, '13 M.A. Politics, and Aida Alami, '09 M.S., were recently announced as visiting professors at Columbia Journalism School.

Donna Ladd, '01 M.S., was named a finalist for The Arkansas Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ 2024 Diamond Journalism Award for her work with the Mississippi Free Press.

Shannon Luibrand, '15 M.S., is producing a series for CBS based on her CJS master's project. The first part of the series, focused on different paths to faith and religion in America, airs September 12. Watch an interview with Luibrand about seeing a story through to its conclusion.

Luke Malone, '13 M.A. Arts and Culture: his documentary "Great Photo, Lovely Life: Facing a Family’s Secrets" has been nominated for Best Documentary and Outstanding Writing: Documentary Emmys.

James McBride, '80 M.S., speaking at the 2024 National Book Festival.

James McBride, '80 M.S., one of Time’s top 100 most influential people, received the 2024 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction on August 24.

Carla Zanoni, '06 M.S., was named the incoming director of the M.A. in Engagement Journalism for The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.

Nina Agrawal, '16 M.S., MIA, is joining Well, The New York Times' health newsletter, covering chronic illnesses worldwide.
