This event presents a rare opportunity to engage directly with the political leaders shaping the city's future.

April 07, 2025

As New York City prepares for its next mayoral election, Columbia Journalism School (CJS) will bring together key candidates for a Mayoral Forum: A Vision for New York City on April 14 at noon in the Lecture Hall of Pulitzer Hall.

The forum has invited mayoral candidates Adrienne Adams, Eric Adams, Michael Blake, Andrew Cuomo, Brad Lander, Zohran Mamdani, Zellnor Myrie, Jessica Ramos, Curtis Sliwa, Scott Stringer and Jim Walden — offering them a unique platform to discuss pressing issues, from housing and public safety to economic development and press freedom.

Moderated by Juan Manuel Benítez, Philip S. Balboni Professor of Professional Practice of Local Journalism, the discussion will focus on the challenges and opportunities facing New York City in the coming years — and CJS students will have a front-row seat to this critical moment.

As future journalists and media professionals, they will gain firsthand experience covering high-stakes political discussions, sharpening their skills in political reporting, interviewing, and public affairs coverage.

“This forum is an opportunity for students and journalists to engage directly with the candidates shaping the future of New York City,” said Professor Benítez. “At a time when local journalism plays a crucial role in holding leaders accountable, it’s essential for the next generation of reporters to witness these conversations firsthand and learn how to cover elections with depth and rigor.”
