Subhanjana Das, ’25 M.S., Receives Columbia University’s 2025 Campbell Award

Subhanjana Das ’25 M.S. honored for leadership, advocacy and public service in journalism.

Columbia Journalism School proudly celebrates Subhanjana Das ’25 M.S., as the recipient of the 2025 Campbell Award. Established by the Columbia University Trustees and the Columbia Alumni Association, the award recognizes one graduating student from each Columbia school for exceptional leadership.

As president of the Columbia Journalism School Student Government, Das led the ratification of a new constitution, supported international students during times of crisis and addressed key academic concerns. A strong advocate for press freedom, she champions the role of student journalists.

At the J-School, Das focused on climate change, social justice and gender rights, building her skills in video and photo journalism. Her reporting spans environmental destruction in Kashmir, the struggles of India’s Muslim textile workers and the toll of the pandemic on informal caregivers. In New York, she covered the decline of Brooklyn’s West Indian American Day Carnival and community efforts to fund parks in underserved neighborhoods.

A member of the South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), Das brings a global perspective and a clear commitment to journalism that serves the public.
