Toxic Labor: How to Move from Print to Multiplatform Investigations

November 21, 2024
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
America/New_York
Pulitzer Hall, 2950 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 Jamail Lecture Hall

Join journalists from Columbia Journalism Investigations and Futuro Investigates for a panel discussion and workshop highlighting the Murrow Award-winning digital and audio investigation, Toxic Labor. Done in collaboration with CJI, Futuro and the Center for Public Integrity, Toxic Labor shed light on how disaster restoration companies aren’t protecting their mostly immigrant workforce from dangerous post-disaster toxins, exacerbated by climate change.

The forum will give a behind-the-scenes look at how CJI fellows helped develop the story for print and then partnered with Futuro to produce an episode of the Peabody Award-winning podcast Latino USA. The workshop will discuss the challenges of transforming a story for one platform into another and offer advice for how to build a multiplatform mindset early on.

This program is cosponsored by Columbia Journalism Investigations and Futuro Media.

Program participants:

  • Kristen Lombardi, director and editor of Columbia Journalism Investigations
  • Samantha McCabe, 2022-23 CJI fellow and investigative reporter
