Tow Tea: Make Your 3D Data Visualization

As news today is shifting to web-based and digital-first, there is huge potential for higher dimensional data visualization to play its role in innovative storytelling.In this session, we’ll discuss advantages of 3D visualizations and learn from real-world use cases in journalism. We’ll also gain hands-on experience by walking through the procedure to create a 3D geospatial data visualization with PyDeck, a layer-structured python library. Learn to quickly develop and prototype exploratory visualizations and see your data from new perspectives.

Bio: Yanan is a graduate of Dual Master’s in Journalism and Computer Science at Columbia University. She is an entrepreneurship fellow at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation. She co-founded Data At Large, a studio that innovates storytelling with data investigative techniques and visualizations. Before that, she worked at the United Nations and ByteDance Ltd. for graphics and content development. With a passion for innovative storytelling, she continues to explore the dynamic intersection of technology and journalism in multimedia such as web, game, and XR.
