Covering War, Politics, Economies and Arts in 12-Nation Region – Discussion and Q&A
Abdi Latif Dahir, M.A. ’16, East Africa correspondent for The New York Times, based in Nairobi, Kenya, discusses his career path and the challenges of reporting on wars, politics, economies and culture, as well as climate change, from a 12-country region that includes Ethiopia, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. He will also discuss how his assignment fits into the newspaper’s overall strategy for covering the world.
Dahir earned his M.A. from Columbia Journalism School with a concentration in politics. He joined the Times in 2019 from Quartz, where he was the East Africa correspondent, focusing on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. He also covered the United Nations in New York as a Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists fellow.
