Impact Journalism & Global Health: Exposing the deadly lead trade

April 9, 2026
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
America/New_York
Pulitzer Hall, 2950 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 3rd Floor, World Room

Meet the reporters behind a blockbuster front-page investigation into the deadly trade in recycled lead as they share the inside story of how the project came together — and how the reporting has driven change at the community and global levels.

The discussion will bring together members of the journalism and public health communities to examine how investigative reporting and scientific expertise can work in tandem to address urgent global health threats.

FEATURED PANELISTS

  • Will Fitzgibbon, senior reporter for The Examination

  • Peter Goodman, global economic correspondent for The New York Times

MODERATOR

  • Dr. Ana Navas-Acien, the Mailman School of Public Health’s Chair of Environmental Health Sciences

This investigation presented extraordinary challenges. Fitzgibbon and Goodman will explore many of them, including collaboration across newsrooms and cultures, unraveling opaque supply chains, working with affected communities, engaging scientists and planning for real-world impact.

The discussion will also explore what this story means for advancing global health and why stronger collaboration between journalists and health leaders is essential.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Registration is required. Please register here by April 3.
