Annual Hearst Lecture with Dr. Mario Garcia

September 30, 2025
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
America/New_York
Pulitzer Hall, 2950 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 Joseph D. Jamail Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor

Join Dr. Mario Garcia for an insightful exploration of artificial intelligence and its transformative impact on content creation, drawing from his book, AI: The Next Revolution in Content Creation.

This lecture will focus on the art and science of prompt engineering—a critical skill for today’s creative professionals. In an era where AI is seamlessly woven into our work and lives, crafting precise and purposeful instructions for machines is both a technical necessity and a creative act.

For journalists who blend empathy, creativity, and purpose, prompt engineering becomes a bridge between human intent and machine precision. He will share findings from my ongoing research into human creativity in the age of AI, introducing the concept of the Super Human. AI calculates, predicts, and mimics, but it lacks judgment, curiosity, taste, ethics, and emotion—qualities that define our humanity.

By embracing these uniquely human strengths, we can harness AI’s potential to amplify our creative impact.

Dr. Mario García is CEO/Founder of García Media, a global consulting firm. He is also Senior Adviser for News Design and Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
