Kristofer Ríos

Kristofer Ríos is an award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker from Puerto Rico and New York City whose work centers on narratives from underrepresented communities.

After graduating from the Journalism School in 2012, Ríos started his reporting career at The Miami Herald. He went on to work as a producer for Univision/Fusion, where he led investigative and documentary projects on immigration, international LGBTQ rights, and climate change. He later produced for ABC News Nightline, covering immigration at the U.S.–Mexico border and the national conversation on reparations.

His filmmaking credits include Menudo: Forever Young, the four-part HBO Max series he co-executive produced and directed, which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival; National Geographic's Science Fair: The Series. Most recently, he produced a Netflix feature documentary about Colombian singer Karol G.

His work has been recognized with a News and Documentary Emmy, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists' George Ramos "Chale" Award for Investigative Journalism. He was a 2023 Nieman Fellow at Harvard, where his research focused on power equity in news coverage of vulnerable and underrepresented communities.

Ríos has taught as an adjunct at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute since 2020.
