Lydia Namubiru ’16 M.S. Data Specialization
When I return to Uganda, I’ll use my education to serve remote populations that aren’t traditionally covered by the media and mentor other Ugandan journalists who wish to get or improve data journalism skills.
I was working on a technology platform that will use text messages to connect professional journalists with sources in these small towns, and to aggregate the news from these communities. I will ramp that up. I used to teach a beginner's data journalism course at the African Centre for Media Excellence in Kampala.
Now that my own skills are much better, I will introduce different levels of training and also borrow heavily from the story-centered teaching approach the Journalism School uses.
