Maria Fisher has extensive experience tutoring foreign graduate students at Columbia University and at The New School in Greenwich Village. She holds Masters degrees from both the School of International and Public Affairs and Teachers College at Columbia. As part of her SIPA degree, she took the writing, reporting and editing courses offered at the Journalism School.
After a stint in daily journalism with the Quincy Patriot Ledger, Fisher was a writer for the business publications Adweek and Forbes. Motherhood and freelance work followed for several years.
Returning to work, Fisher detoured into teaching, with a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Teachers College. For the past 10 years, she has worked with foreign college and graduate students teaching academic English skills as a classroom instructor and a tutor.
