Jack Gillum is a D.C.-based technology reporter at ProPublica, where he covers privacy, cybersecurity and social media platforms.
He came to ProPublica by way of The Washington Post, The Associated Press and USA Today. His reporting has revealed problematic disaster-relief efforts in Puerto Rico, the existence and location of Hillary Clinton’s private email server and a U.S.-backed “Cuban Twitter” program that secretly mined data for political purposes. He has also covered two presidential races and the world of campaign finance.
Gillum began his career as a business reporter and database specialist at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, his hometown. He received his M.S. from the Journalism School and his B.S. in political science from Santa Clara University.
