Upon graduation from the Journalism School, students have the opportunity to land numerous special paid postgraduate reporting positions ranging in length from three months to a year. Some of the opportunities are based at Columbia. Others are located at news outlets in the U.S. and abroad. Opportunities evolve yearly, so check back for updates.

Exclusive opportunities through the Journalism School

Columbia Graduate Research Fellowship Columbia J-School fellow working for Dean Coll on various research and book-related projects for one year. 

Columbia Journalism Review Delacorte Magazine Fellowship Three 12‐month reporting fellowships covering the media, based at Columbia Journalism School.

Education Reporting Fellowship A national reporting project about America’s next generation of classroom teachers. Three one‐year positions.

Gender and Migration Reporting fellowships on gender and migration, focusing on U.S. immigration law, border politics, international refugee policy, and more.

Longform Journalism Fellowship Two four-month fellowships writing narrative nonfiction in association with staff from digital publisher The Big Round Table

Postgraduate Investigative Reporting Fellowship The fellowship will employ recent graduates of the school, and it will be directed under the supervision of full-time Investigations Editor, as well as faculty advisors, including Sheila Coronel and Steve Coll.

Post-Graduate Fellowships in Data Journalism Three six-month fellowships supervised by Prof. Giannina Segnini. Starting in September.

The Marshall Project A 10‐week investigative reporting internship at the Pulitzer Prize‐winning news startup on criminal justice reporting. Funded by The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia Business School.

McClatchy Three full-time, six-month temporary positions in McClatchy bureaus across the U.S. Locations vary.
