Columbia Journalism School Graduates, Ingrid Holmquist and Sana Malik, Awarded the BAFTA Student Film Award for Documentary

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Los Angeles honored Ingrid Holmquist and Sana Malik, ’18 M.S. Documentary, with the 2019 Student Film Awards in the Documentary category for “Guanajuato Norte” at a gala in Santa Monica.

The film, which was Holmquist’s and Malik’s Masters documentary project, is about a man from Guanajuato, Mexico who crossed the border to work on a farm in Connecticut, and contends with being away from his family for years to help support their dreams and build a new life for them.  

The film was one of three finalists from a world-wide field of 568 submissions from film schools that represent 38 countries across the world. BAFTA is a world-recognized leader in the arts akin the Academy Awards in the U.S.
