J-School launches centennial year with a very special Alumni Weekend

The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism’s centennial year got off to a roaring start this past Friday, April 20, with a series of events that celebrated the school’s storied history and the accomplishments of its diverse alumni. The centennial launch took place during the J-School’s annual Alumni Weekend that welcomes hundreds of J-schoolers back to Morningside campus.

2012-2013 Knight-Bagehot Fellows announced

Ten Knight-Bagehot Fellows in economics and business journalism have been named by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism for the 2012-2013 academic year. They include journalists from The Detroit News, Bloomberg Businessweek, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, CNBC-TV18 in Mumbai, Bloomberg Television and Michigan Public Radio.

Adjunct Habiba Nosheen '09 documents incest in Pakistan

Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism adjunct professor and alumna Habiba Nosheen ’09 recently published reporting from Pakistan on incest in The Atlantic, which ran a print story, and BBC/PRI, which ran audio. Both outlets also published Nosheen’s video of the story.

Following the renaming ceremony of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism's building as Pulitzer Hall on April 20, a celebratory event and cocktail party were held in Miller Theatre and Low Library on the Columbia University campus, to officially kick off the school's centennial.

Spencer Fellows in Education Reporting named

Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism has named three journalists as the 2012-2013 Spencer Fellows in Education Reporting to pursue projects that will examine the crucial roles of community colleges, of Advanced Placement curriculum, and of high-stakes testing in the nation’s education system and in its future. The fellows were selected by a distinguished board of education experts and journalists in a competitive application process.

J-School hosts open house weekend for admitted students

Over the weekend of April 13-15, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism hosted an open house for admitted students. More than 250 students and parents from around the world visited the school to get a sense of the programs, the campus and New York City, and to meet J-School professors and current students -- and each other.

The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma today announced the winners of the 2012 Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma. This year’s winners are The New York Times and WNYC Radio. Honorable mentions went to NPR, The Arizona Republic and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
